In 1915, M.A. Lightman opened his first Malco Theatre in a small storefront space in Sheffield, Alabama.

Since then, Malco has grown to become the Nation’s 14th largest circuit operating 35 sites with over 280 screens in five mid-southern states.

Headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, Malco is a fourth generation company that has remained family owned and operated for over eight decades.

Nationally recognized for its innovative techniques and special attention given to sight, sound, and patron comfort, Malco has always been on the cutting edge of technology.

Malco introduced Dolby stereo, digital sound, THX systems, and stadium seating to the region. In 1971, Malco built Memphis’ first mutiplex theatre.

According to Perry Sun in the November 1999, Film Journal International after a tour of Malco’s 20 screen Majestic Theatre, “For every auditorium, nothing short of the latest performance-grade equipment was in use. The excellent sound and image quality are evident in other locations throughout the Malco circuit.”

In the September 1999 Box Office magazine, Francesca Dinglasan says, “Staying innovative is a motto that has been passed down from generation-to-generation at Malco.”

Malco opened its flagship theatre the Paradiso in May 2003 and raised the bar even higher on the movie going experience in Memphis. The theatre creates an environment reminiscent of an old world Italian villa and contains many amenities unique to Malco.

The Paradiso features a large format Grand screen complete with THX sound, an internet café, expanded arcade areas, and Café Tuscana serving import beers and wine.
